The Insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu

Sax Rohmer [Henry Sarsfield Ward]

1913
"I mean that it was a deliberate attempt on my life, and I am hard upon the tracks of the man who extracted that venom--patiently, drop by drop--from the poison-glands of the snake, who prepared that arrow, and who caused it to be shot at me. A fiend who, unless my calculations are at fault, is now in London, and who regularly wars with pleasant weapons of that kind."

The Insidious Dr. Fu-Manchu (British title: The Mystery of Dr. Fu-Manchu) is the first of fourteen Fu-Manchu books written by Sax Rohmer, pseudonym of Henry Sarsfield Ward. Sir Nayland Smith and Dr. Petrie are the Sherlock Holmes and Watson of the series, with Dr. Petrie narrating the books and aiding Smith in battling the arch-villain Dr. Fu-Manchu.
