Electrical Experimenter (02:06) October 1914

Hugo Gernsback, editor

1914
"The United Fruit Company has awarded to the Marconi Company a contract for the installation of wireless direction finders on the steamships Pastores, Tenadores and Calamares. These steamships will be the first passenger vessels in the world to be equipped with an invention which, it is asserted, will greatly reduce the risk of collision in fog. The object is to enable navigating officers on ships to take bearings of wireless telegraph stations with a view of finding the position of their ships or of avoiding collision with other vessels."
This early issue of Electrical Experimenter is from October 1914. While Hugo Gernsback’s later publications are famous for their artistic covers, these very earliest issues use plain covers and are much shorter. This issue includes an article describing several Tesla high-frequency demonstrations and includes a rare photo of Tesla’s “World Wireless” Tower on Long Island, later blown up by the U.S. government over concerns foreign agents would use it against the U.S. in World War I.
